5/5/2026 - SPOTLIGHT: Keep Texas Beautiful awards Gold Star status to BCMUD

Dear Brushy Creek MUD residents,

We are excited to share that Brushy Creek MUD has been awarded gold star status by Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB) on March 25, 2026.

“This is a prestigious honor that reflects our District’s outstanding community stewardship,” said BCMUD Horticulturist and Arborist Kathleen Breslow. “Through educational events, creek cleanups, KTB conference participation, and garden programs, residents and staff demonstrated a shared commitment to environmental care.”

Less than 100 statewide affiliates out of more than 300 earn the Gold Star Affiliate annually, according to information from KTB. The designation means that an affiliate demonstrated deep impact, engagement, and program participation within their respective community.

In 2025, KTB affiliate Brushy Creek MUD engaged more than 40 volunteers who contributed more than $11,000 based on an independent sector evaluation of the value of volunteer hours

Affiliates like BCMUD must demonstrate strong community engagement, report on economic development and diversity initiatives, and participate in statewide recognition programs to earn the organization’s coveted Gold Star status, according to information from KTB.

"Our affiliates bring our mission to life every day. We are proud to recognize those who are leading the way as Gold Star Affiliates,” said Sara Walters, Executive Director of Keep Texas Beautiful. “These communities exemplify excellence in community leadership by mobilizing volunteers, advancing meaningful projects, and fostering a culture of care and pride in their communities."

Breslow said BCMUD beautification events that helped the District garner this distinguished honor included the Spring Creek Clean-Up, Fall Creek Clean-Up, and the Unplug Texas Community Garden Event.

“This achievement highlights the power of community involvement and inspires continued pride in preserving Brushy Creek MUD’s natural beauty, as well as The Brushy Creek Life,” Breslow said. “This recognition also reflects the invaluable, ongoing efforts of the BCMUD Parks Department, whose dedication plays a vital role in keeping our District beautiful.”

KTB will honor all 2026 Gold Star Affiliates during the Keep Texas Beautiful Virtual Conference on May 12 - 14, 2026.
